How to secure an electric bike?

The number of e-bike owners is increasing, so it's worth sharing some practical recommendations on how to minimize the risk of theft.
Tip #1:
The price of a bike lock should be 10% of the price of the bike
So it's probably clear that a bike worth 25,000 CZK to 50,000 CZK
It is not a good idea to secure it with a simple lock for a few crowns.
Tip No. 2
Feel free to buy a solid lock! The e-bike will take it
A problem that some cyclists have: a chain lock is not easy for a thief to overcome, but it is quite heavy .
This disadvantage disappears when the engine pedals with you.
It won't be a problem for you to buy a more massive piece, so you can attach a heavier chain lock to your bike.
Tip No. 3
Think about the convenient transportation of the lock
Once you've purchased a lock that you can't cut without waking up the entire street, you also need to place it somewhere on the bike. If there is no more space under the saddle, there are other possible solutions.
ABUS locks are equipped with reliable holders that can be placed on the bike frame using screws or, for example, Velcro.

ABUS offers a wide range of options for attaching the bike lock.

Tip No. 4
Park in the right place!
An electric bike is a small motorbike (sorry bikers...). So what is recommended for securing two-wheeled vehicles also applies. Where you leave your electric bike can decide whether someone will (or won't) try to steal it. You can increase the security of your electric bike by locking it under a city police camera, under a well-lit place, or in a busy location.
Tip No. 5
Use the lock at every opportunity.
You go shopping, you sit in a restaurant garden, you go to an ATM, you go around the corner... One group of thieves are people who did not prepare for the theft in any way. They are random offenders and there are certainly not a few of them. They walk by, see an unsecured bike and then you are left with only memories.
Tip No. 6
Combine locks
One way to increase the security of your e-bike is to combine locks. For example, add a chain lock to your e-bike with a brake lock with an alarm (e.g. 7000 RS1). Or a combination of an ABUS chain lock and a high-quality ABUS padlock. But definitely don't go for a "cheap" solution in the form of a long chain from a hardware store. These chains are not particularly resistant to breaking, they will scratch your bike, and it is really inconvenient to transport them or wrap them around the entire bike...
Tip No. 7
Lock your e-bike "smartly"
It is always a good idea to lock your bike outdoors to a solid object (post, railing) and as tightly as possible to prevent the possibility of prying and manipulating the lock. Likewise, never lock just the front wheel. Also, think about making it significantly more difficult for a potential thief, for example by locking it in a less accessible position.
Unconventional tip:
A bike that doesn't look new, beautiful, or shiny at first glance is less attractive to thieves. So sometimes it's better to make it a little "uglier" by, for example, imitating a rusty fender :-)
