Maintenance and operation of an electric bike

Proper care of your e-bike
Every e-bike requires regular maintenance and inspection to operate properly, which concerns both its mechanical parts (like a regular bike) and the electronic installation.
Before each ride:
- Check the tightness of the quick-release bolts, including the folding mechanisms on folding bikes.
- Checking the functionality and adjustment of the brakes, including the fit of the brake pads/blocks.
- Check tire inflation and wheel condition (deformation, play, freedom of rotation).
- Check the tightness of the spokes, handlebars, steering head, pedal center and cranks.
- Checking the operation of speed changers (derailleurs).
- Checking the battery status and correct operation of the electric drive
If any deficiencies are found, ensure that they are corrected first!
Every week or every 200km extra:
- Lubrication of chain, bearings, pins
- Lubrication and adjustment of the speed changer function, lubrication of the bowden ports
- Checking the condition of tires - tread and measuring tire pressure
- Checking the centering of the wheel rims, tightening the spokes and making any adjustments
- Check the tightness of all screw connections, correct position, adjustment and degree of wear of all components.
Depending on the type of use, regular maintenance also includes immediate cleaning and drying of the bike, cleaning the chain, lubricating rotating components, and other routine tasks to prevent excessive wear or corrosion of e-bike parts.
After the first 200 km or 2 months from purchase, we recommend that you have a warranty inspection at your authorized dealer. The warranty inspection is free of charge, but if any deficiencies in adjustment or maintenance are found, they will be repaired by the service at the regular service rate.
We recommend that maintenance and repairs be entrusted to a professional service.
Battery charging and care.
Operate and use the electrical circuit and battery according to the instructions that came with the e-bike. It is essential to keep the battery charged. If the bike is not used, it will self-discharge, so it is recommended to fully charge it once a month. Do not store the battery in a discharged state!
Prevent mechanical damage to the battery and the discarded Do not throw the battery or other components of the product into municipal waste, but hand them in at a collection point! For information on the treatment, return and recycling of this product, please contact your retailer or the relevant public authority. Make sure to dispose of the product correctly. Over the life of the battery and with the increasing number of charging cycles, its capacity naturally decreases. Warranty ≠lifetime.
Notice:
- The supply voltage for the charger is 230V/50Hz, the charger is intended for operation in a normal, dry environment.
- When charging, place the charger in a safe and non-flammable place, it is normal for the charger to heat up during charging
- Do not open the charger or tamper with the internal wiring.
- Do not use a charger other than the one you received with your e-bike model.
- Protect the battery and charger from strong impacts and places with high temperatures or frost.
What you should know
Before each ride, check the condition of the individual components, the full functionality of the brakes, the wheel and steering attachments, including the tightening of the screw connections, and make sure that the battery is charged. If you find any defects, first eliminate the defects. First familiarize yourself with the use of the electric drive and its control in a less frequented area, e.g. a parking lot. Do not expose the e-bike to rain, do not ride in deep water, and do not wash it with a stream of water.
Use lights when riding in poor visibility. If you are carrying items on a luggage rack, make sure they are securely fastened and do not exceed the maximum load capacity of the rack of 10kg. When shifting gears, pedal with less force to make it easier to move the chain. For bikes with 21 or more gears, choose gear combinations that cause the chain to cross less (for a small wheel in the middle, choose larger wheels at the back and vice versa).
The electric bicycle is intended for normal recreational use on roads suitable for cycling and with a load within the limit specified by the manufacturer. Do not use the electric bicycle in difficult terrain, with excessive load or in a manner that contradicts its purpose. A driver's license or other certificate is not required to ride an electric bicycle, as long as the person is qualified to ride a regular bicycle. Follow the user instructions, applicable legislation and traffic rules.
For use on public roads, the bicycle must meet the requirements of Decree 341/2002 Coll. (Annex 13) and ČSN standards, including mandatory reflectors and lighting for use in low visibility conditions. The supplier is not responsible for compliance with the stated requirements (e.g. necessary bicycle accessories). All supplied products are intended for recreational (hobby) use, which predetermines the nature and reasonable frequency of their use - occasional use and limited time span (not daily professional use (e.g. postman, courier services) or large and frequent time span of use). We also recommend the use of a bicycle helmet and glasses.
Standard warranty and service
We ensure that Lectron e-bikes are sold only by well-established dealers with service experience and qualified personnel. You can therefore claim any warranty repairs from the authorized dealer where you purchased the product. Please note that the routine maintenance tasks described above are not covered by the warranty. However, any authorized dealer will be happy to perform them as a standard service if you are interested. In addition to proper battery care, the e-bike it requires virtually no more maintenance than any properly maintained bicycle. However, neglecting inspection and maintenance can lead to more extensive defects, which can have serious consequences for both the lifespan of the e-bike and the safety of its operation.
Electric bike dealer of course, it provides the consumer with a standard 24-month warranty, including the battery. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear of products by law. (or its parts) caused by use. This means that the service life of some components may logically be shorter during normal use of the product, because they simply wear out - e.g. tires, brake pads and blocks, bowden cables, chain and gear sets, bearings, moving parts of engines and detachable joints. Wheel spokes and individual electrical and mechanical components require regular inspection and maintenance described in the user instructions and adjustment, which falls under normal maintenance. The warranty provided to the statutory extent therefore does not apply to defects caused by improper use, failure to follow the user instructions, neglect of maintenance, flooding of the electrical installation with water and wear of individual components due to use.
A typical defect caused by neglect of maintenance (and therefore not covered by the warranty) can be, for example, damage to the battery, which the customer stores in the autumn in a half-discharged state and in the spring, after six months without charging, discovers that the battery is damaged - either it cannot be charged, or the bike has a significantly shorter range after charging. The drop in voltage below the limit value has caused an irreversible change in the behavior of the battery. The repair option is reconditioning or replacing the battery with a new one.
Another example of a non-warranty defect caused by neglect of maintenance is damage to the flatness of the spokes and rim, the so-called figure eight. The customer did not check the spokes of the wheel for a long time, the spokes (spoke wires) became loose, the wheel geometry was lost and as a result some spokes and their mounting in the rim were damaged. It should be remembered that on bikes with an electric motor in the center of the wheel, especially those equipped with disc brakes, the spokes of the wheels are exposed to greater moments of force than on a conventional bike and as a result they may loosen earlier.
