Bosch engines
The German technology and industrial manufacturer Bosch has always been synonymous with quality workmanship and the development of new patented solutions, all with perfect precision and high durability and reliability of its components. In the field of electric bicycles, Bosch operates at the highest possible level and bicycles with its drive are highly sought after for their quality workmanship, precise driving performance and reliability. Here we look at the most used motors, their parameters, areas of use and comparison
Bosch Active Line / Active Line Plus

The Active Line model is a quiet, reliable and precise motor that is mainly used in urban or trekking e-bikes designed for commuting or light hiking on paved roads. It is also an affordable option while maintaining the highest manufacturing quality that Bosch offers. The Active Line Plus then offers higher peak performance compared to the Active Line
The motor weighs 3.3 kg, has a nominal power of 250 W, a peak power of 625 W (675 W) and a maximum torque of 50 Nm.

Bosch Performance Line

The Performance line is a sporty compact mid-engine designed for mountain and off-road tourism, it can also be used as a touring engine for more hilly terrain, where the Active Line is not powerful enough. This model features the eMTB mode for the first time, which evaluates the most suitable engine power based on the current riding situation. It uses cadence, speed and torsion sensors to do this and can dynamically change the output power from 300 W to 750 W.
The motor weighs 3.2 kg, has a nominal power of 250 W, a peak power of 750 W and a maximum torque of 65 Nm.

Bosch Performance Line CX 3rd generation

The Bosch performance line CX was for a long time the best thing you could get on an electric bike, in the entire time it was on sale we have not noticed a single fault with the motor. It is a relatively massive large motor that stood out for its smooth running when assisted. It is characterized by a small chainring pinion (15-18 teeth) and motor gear. Thanks to this, the rider is able to ride and shift more precisely, but at the cost of higher engine speeds, which affects the sound and the lifespan of moving parts, especially the chain, nut, and pulleys. Its disadvantage was also significant resistance when pedaling without assistance. Only on sale on older, sale bikes, it cannot be installed on new ones
The motor weighs 4.0 kg, has a nominal power of 250 W, a peak power of 750 Wh and a maximum torque of 75 Nm.

Bosch Performance Line CX 4th generation

2020 was a real revolution for the top model of the Bosch motor. The facelift of the older model brought drastic improvements in virtually every possible parameter. Since even cheaper competitors had long used a freewheel, which allowed for easy pedaling without engaging the motor assistance, the manufacturer was quickly losing its privileged position. Not for long.. The 4th generation Performance Line CX quickly became the best you can get after its introduction. Its driving performance is very precise, with a fast response from the torsion sensor, the power is pleasantly modulated even at the highest assistance, it does not seem jerky at all even when riding around the 25 km/h limit, the range of cadences at which the motor delivers its best results is very wide, so in addition to technical rides, it also handles long straight roads with pleasantly slow pedaling. When the assistance is turned off, the presence of the motor is almost unnoticeable.
The motor weighs 2.8 kg (1200 g less than Gen 3), nominal power 250 W, peak 850 W, maximum torque 85 Nm

Bosch Performance Line CX Smart System

Compared to the 4th generation Performance line CX, the drive system is expanded with an intelligent system for connecting to other devices, which allows the use of additional services, such as navigation with map data, training applications, remote locking of the system as a prevention against theft, ABS braking system (none of the manufacturers represented in our country use this system yet) and some others. The Smart System uses a new charging connector, which, among other things, allows the installation of batteries with a capacity of 750 Wh, as well as the new Bosch Kiox display.
